A group of preservatives commonly used to help protect cosmetics from bacteria and mould. We choose to formulate without parabens such as methylparaben and propylparaben.
A highly refined petroleum-derived oil commonly used to soften the skin and reduce moisture loss. We prefer to build our formulas around selected plant oils and other purposeful emollients.
Also known as petroleum jelly, petrolatum is an occlusive ingredient used to form a protective layer that reduces moisture loss. We choose other emollients and waxes for our formulas instead.
A group of compounds that may be used as plasticisers or within certain fragrance systems. We choose to formulate our products without phthalates.
A chemical historically used for preservation and antimicrobial purposes. It is not part of the preservative systems we choose for our formulations.
Preservatives designed to gradually release small amounts of formaldehyde to help control microbial growth. Examples include DMDM Hydantoin, Quaternium-15, Diazolidinyl Urea and Imidazolidinyl Urea. We choose not to use these preservative systems.
An antimicrobial ingredient that has been used in soaps, deodorants and other personal-care products. It is not an ingredient we use in our formulations.
A solvent most commonly associated with products such as nail polish. It does not have a place in the formulas we create at Lips Carpenter.
A synthetic antioxidant sometimes used to help protect oils and fats from oxidation. This refers to Butylated Hydroxyanisole, not the exfoliating acid commonly called BHA in skincare.
A synthetic antioxidant sometimes used to protect formula oils from oxidation and support shelf stability. We choose other antioxidant ingredients, such as Vitamin E, in our formulas instead.
